Trimming & Pruning

Do you have a tree that is overgrown, hanging over your home or just doesn’t look pleasant? Then you probably need to look at hiring an arborist to tame the tree. When searching for an arborist, it is imperative to hire an ISA certified arborist. One mistake when trimming can cause irreversible damage and in many cases removal of your tree. The International Society of Arboriculture or ISA is a board of master arborists with decades of combined experience which set the standards for the industry. To qualify to take the ISA exam you need to have a minimum of 3 years in the industry, pass an exam and take continued education classes to make sure your up to date on the latest standards.

Second, is to reference the Commercial Contractors Board for an active license to confirm the contractor has insurance and bond coverage. This will also inform you if your desired contractor has any formal complaints or disciplinary actions made over the last 10 years.

The third point to consider is their best practices. Here at Jacob’s Ladder Tree Tech, we use non-invasive climbing and rigging techniques when we are trimming trees. This means the use of friction savers and blocks to protect the cambium layer of the tree. Cambium is the layer under the outer Bark that is responsible for tree growth and production. We use static rope climbing techniques instead of spurs or spikes that dig into the cambium and create potential entry wounds for disease.

One of our most standard trims is to thin the crown on tall standing conifers (evergreens) to allow the wind to blow through the tree rather than against it. Proper wind flow mitigates too much moisture. Excess moisture can lead to fungal or viral diseases and pests like carpenter ants or others. We also trim weight out of included barked leads/legs–a defect from seed causing a weak attachment point–to minimize the risk of failure. There can be cultural reasons as well, like raising the branches off of structures to eliminate dry rot and pest entry into the house or attic. Some people also choose to have trees trimmed to open up a view or to add value and curb appeal to their property.

We can provide individual consultations to develop the best solution for your specific needs that benefit both you and your tree. Reach out to us for a personalized quote to fit your job today.

I started a small property management company and was looking for a small business to handle the lawn maintenance at my rental houses. The large companies are ok, but there's no personal service and the tech may change from week to week. I needed someone I could trust to not only do a good job, but who would also report back to me with any maintenance issues or concerns. Thankfully I found Jacob!! He is friendly and personable and a very hard worker! The yards he's maintaining are newer sod and between the irrigation issues and the super-hot weather, it's been touch and go all summer. Jacob texts me updates and reports any problems he sees every week when he mows. He's so great, we hired him to handle our own house! Plus he knows his trees!

(Sept 2021) We called Jacob's crew back to remove a large dead Locust tree looming over recently planted landscaping bushes, and they were able to pluck the tree away without any damage to the bushes below. They also removed a large dead Poplar tree looming over a property fence line, again with care and no damage. And after ~20 years of personally not keeping up with pruning a large Magnolia tree, Jacob's arborist Eric (pictured) did an amazing job pruning the Magnolia back to size and shape.FYI - as of Fall 2021, Jacob has started a second operation in Idaho, so some Google details may show Oregon or Idaho, but both are valid.(Feb 2019) Awesome and professional. A snow storm fell a large cedar tree across our house power line. Pacific Power took care of the line itself, and Jacob was very quick to respond with an onsite assessment and quote, and wedge the job into his busy schedule. Everything was clearly explained, and he and his co-worker were very professional and properly equipped while on-site. Invoicing by e-mail and payment online made it easy to close things out.

2021. I had Jacob and his team fell 3 hazardous trees, clear away a fallen tree, and top my hedge so I could reach the new growth to keep it trimmed myself. Eric and his team were courteous and did their work with quality and integrity. They had me check their work as they progressed to ensure that I was satisfied. This company is the only company I call for my tree services--THEY ARE FANTASTIC--and their prices are reasonable! :). I highly recommend their services.2020 TERRIFIC! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Can't say enough great things about this company! The owner and employees were exceptionally respectful, worked diligently and responsibly, and their prices were reasonable. All my future tree trimming/cutting will be done by this excellent company.

We had a half dead birch tree in our backyard that I have been wanting to remove for a while. It split into two right at the base of the trunk and with the one side dead and our two year old, of course my concern was that eventually it would fall. Jacob was able to come and give me a estimate within just a couple days. Of course this is dangerous work and I'm sure the insurance is astronomical, you can't expect work like this to come cheap. Knowing that however the price was not unreasonable. He even supports military/veterans with a bit of a discount which is greatly appreciated. Not too worried about the timeframe he was still able to get us in a whole month sooner than expected which was a nice surprise. Him and his crew we're on time and had the whole tree plus a couple little stumps from some smaller trees that I had removed in 4 hours flat. They were exceptionally careful with anything we had in the yard and cleaned up very well after the job was finished. I couldn't be happier. I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for and received exactly what I expected. Plus some. This might not be important to all but I do have a two year old who is a sponge with information and vocabulary. I didn't hear any profanity while they were working. I appreciate that. Thank you again!

Jacob's Ladder Tree Service did an outstanding job from beginning to end. The crew was very professional and polite. Our trees look so much better now and our ugly dead tree in the back yard is now gone. Thanks Logan. It was fun watching you top the tree. I would highly recommend their service.
